UAE author and activist Sultan al Qassemi

Writer, journalist, and blogger Sultan al Qassemi spoke to academics and students Monday, November 12, 2012 during a visit to the IU School of Journalism.
Qassemi is best known for his translation of tweets into English during the Tunisian and Egyptian uprisings of 2011.





Sultan al Qassemi spoke primarily about the role of media in coverage, or misunderstanding of, the "Arab Uprisings," also known in western media
as the "Arab Spring." Qassemi can be found on twitter @SultanAlQassemi where he also talks about these issues.

Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi has contributed to the Huffington Post, Foreign Policy, Gulf News, and the Guardian among many others.

Qassemi rapidly translated hundreds of tweets from Arabic into English, work for which Time Magazine recognized him for having one of the best Twitter feeds of 2011.

Sultan Sooud al Qassemi is from the United Arab Emirates or UAE. He lives in the capital city of Dubai where he works as a journalist, academic and prominent business owner.
He is also the founder of Barjeel Securities, and the Managing Director of Al Saud Co., Ltd.
